LIGHTING:               [The light fades in on narrator]

NARRATOR:    Good Evening/Morning! I am the Narrator (Name) for the “Voices of Advent” an Advent pageant.

 

Please open your hearts and enjoy “The Voices of Advent”.

Children’s Advent Play – The Voices of Advent

NARRATOR:    Let’s open in prayer by lighting the advent candle. Let it enlighten our hearts and carefully listen to the voice of the Prophet Isaiah:

 

LIGHTING:               [The Light fades in on Isaiah – he is in the ambo]

 

ISAIAH:            And it shall come to pass in the last days that the mountain of  the Lord’s house shall be established in the top from the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills: and ALL NATIONS shall stream unto it!

 

And many people shall go and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the lord, to the house of God of Jacob; And He will each us His ways and we will walk in His paths.

ACTION:          ( Isaiah slowly turns around and walk to the back of the wall. The light slowly fade dark       and fade in on the choir. 

 

CHOIR:                    People Look East/Open Our Heart O Christian People

 

NARRATOR:            Isaiah was given many prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah that would be  the Savior of all the people of the earth.

 

Now that the nations have assembled before the Lord, let us hear again from the ancient Prophet and learn more about how God’s great plan of salvation was to be fulfilled.

 

LIGHTING                [Lighting fades back to Isaiah]

 

ISAIAH:            Ask Ye a sign from the Lord thy God. Let it be deep as the nether world, or as high as the sky! The Lord Himself shall give Thee a sign; Behold! A Virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

 

ACTION:  [Mary begins walking down the isles when Isaiah says, “Behold”. Mary walks slowly with praying hands.]

 

LIGHTING: [Lighting fades in on the alter when Mary reaches the altar.]

 

SMOKE:[The music beings the Angel Gabriel Song. The smoke begins.]

 

ACTION:  [ The light shine brightly on GAB and MAR. Mary sees GAB and drop to her knees. GAB speaks with confidence and grace. GAB looks directly at Mary. The keyboard plays heavenly sound (voice).] Children’s Advent Play – The Voices of Advent

 

 

CHOIR: The Angel Gabriel

 

GABRIEL: Rejoice, O highly favored daughter! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.

 

GABRIEL: Do not fear, Mary. You have found favor with God. You shall conceive and bear a son and give him the name Jesus.

 

ACTION:  [Mary looks at GAB]

 

MARY: But how can this be; since I do not know man?

 

GABRIEL: The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will   overshadow you.

 

GABRIEL: The child to be born will be called the Son of God. Your cousin Elizabeth has conceived a son in her old age. She is now in her sixth month, (pause) for Nothing is Impossible with God.

 

MARY:  I am the maidservant of the lord. Let it be done to me as you say.

 

ACTION:  [ GAB walks into darkness and Mary looks up to pray

. Chanting. ]

 

CHOIR:    Mary’s Canticle

 

ACTION:          [After the final verse, Mary walks back]

 

NARRATOR:    Now Mary was engaged to a fine man named Joseph.

 

ACTION: ( Joseph begins walking to the altar and lays down

 on steps of the altar.)

NARRATOR:    Joseph was confused and hurt by what had happened to Mary. But he was a good and pious man, so he decided to call off the marriage in a very quiet way,  so Mary would not be embarrassed.  (SLOWER) But God had a greater plan for Joseph: (pause) so Angel of the Lord

 

SMOKE:           Smoke begins…

 

ACTION:  (The Angel the Lord move towards Joseph. The smoke appears) Children’s Advent Play – The Voices of Advent

NARRATOR:    …appeared to Joseph in a dream.

 

ACTION:          The keyboard play the (voices sound)

 

ANGEL:   Joseph, son of David, have no fear about taking Mary as your wife. It is by the Holy Spirit that she has conceived this child. Mary is to have a son and you shall name him Jesus because he will save his people from their sins.

 

CHOIR:“Zion Hear the Watchmen”

 

NARRATOR:    When Joseph awake he did as the Angel of the Lord had directed him and received Mary into his home as his wife.

 

All this happened to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:  “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and hey shall call him Emmanuel,” a name which means  ‘God is with Us’.

 

ACTION:          (The music “Emmanuel” has been fading in during the narrator’s speech. When the narrator is finished the choir sings the song.)

 

CHOIR:    Emmanuel

 

 

 

 

 

 

NARRATOR:    As Mary and Joseph are preparing for the birth of Jesus let us return to  the ancient voice of the Prophet Isaiah as he foretells the appearance of the greatest human being in all of history, John the Baptist. He was the last prophet before Jesus and the one chosen by God to prepare the hearts of men and women to greet the Savior and hear the Good News of Salvation!

 

ISAIAH:            A herald’s voice will be heard in the dessert, crying, ‘Prepare Ye the way of  the Lord, clear him a straight path. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill be made level.

The windings shall be made straight and the rough places smooth, and all men and women shall see the salvation of  our God.’

 

CHOIR:    Every Valley

 

JOHN: Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!!! Repent of your sins and be baptized!!!

 

Do good deeds to prove your repentance for I tell you One mightier than I                                 is coming after me. I have baptized with water: He will baptize you with                                the Holy Spirit!!!

ACTION:  [During Isaiah’s prophecy John The Baptist enter and stand in front of the center altar. Stepping down and beginning to walk down the center aisle and out the back door he repeats the following lines several times on his

way out.]

JOHN:      Prepare Ye the way of the Lord! Make a straight path for the Messiah! Prepare Ye the way of the Lord! Make a straight path for the Messiah!

 

NARRATOR:    Let’s listen to the voice of one more prophet. He will tell  us where it is on   earth that Jesus is to be born. Look! and listen or (listen to the voice of the Prophet Micah) to the Prophet Micah.

 

MICAH:    O Little town of Bethlehem Eph-ra-thah, you are one of the smallest in the nation of Judah. But I will choose one of your people to rule the nation.

 

And his family goes back to ancient times. The Lord will abandon Israel only until this ruler is born and the rest of his family come back to join Israel.

 

MICAH:    He will stand like a shepherd feeding his sheep by the power and glorious  name of the Lord his God. His people will live in peace, and everyone on earth will know how great the Lord is!

 

CHOIR:                    “O Little Town of Bethlehem”

 

NARRATOR:            As Mary and Joseph prepare to leave for Bethlehem let us prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas time. The midnight or (Holy hour)  is almost upon us.

 

Let us heed the words of John the Baptist and fill these days with repentance, prayer and good deeds.

Only then will we understand the Reason for the Season!

Only the will we be able to keep Christ in Christmas!

Only then will we appreciate the song the angels sing on Christmas night!

 

NARRATOR:    Let us now follow Mary and Joseph on their way to the little of Bethlehem where this great event will be celebrated. Let us walk with them in prayer and in love. Let us make room in our hearts for the child that they are         bringing to Bethlehem. O Come, let us prepare the way of the Lord!!

 

CHOIR:                    While We Are Waiting Come

ACTION:          (Mary and Joseph travel with the Angels behind them praying – there hands extended and chanting “Hail Mary’s”  Joseph arms are embracing her and he is caring a lantern and Mary is caring a basket. NARRATOR:    Good Evening! I am the Narrator for the “Voices of Advent” an Advent pageant presented by the music ministry of St. Maximilian Kolbe.

 

We are delighted that you have join us this evening. Please my yourself                           comfortable, relax, and open your heart, and enjoy “The Voices of                          Advent”.
