Children’s Christmas Pageant Script. Children’s Christmas Pageant Script is written by Tim Jacquet. This story is based on the reading of Luke which the children will act out the story. There are five Christmas carol contains in the script, “The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came”, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”, “What Child Is This,” “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Go Tell It on The Mountain.” The play can be done in 12 minutes and is very effective. CHOIR/ASSEMBLY: Sings the “Gospel Acclamation– Alleluia!
ACTION: (The deacon collects the Book of Gospels and heads to proclaim at the ambo while Mary process down the middle aisle to the foot of the sanctuary area during the acclamation)
CANTOR VERSE: “I bring you news of great joy, joy for all nations,
for today is born our savior, Christ the Lord.”
CHOIR/ASSEMBLY: Sings the “Gospel Acclamation– Alleluia!
NARRATOR: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. Please be seated! (Narrator Pauses)
In the sixth month the Angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth. To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
CHOIR/ASSEMBLY: The Song “The Angel Gabriel From Heaven Came”
ACTION: (The Angel Gabriel gently emerges from the left of the sanctuary and stands before Mary with
arms outstretched thus indicating his important message!)
ANGEL GABRIEL: Hail Mary, Thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with Thee; blessed art Thou among women.
NARRATOR: Mary was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her.
ANGEL GABRIEL: Fear not, Mary: for Thou hast found favor with
God. And, behold, Thou shall conceive in thy womb, and bring forth
a son, and Thou shall call His name JESUS.
NARRATOR: The Angel Gabriel also proceed to tell Mary,
NARRATOR: He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of His kingdom here shall be no end.
NARRATOR: Then said Mary unto the angel,
MARY: Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto me
according to thy word.
NARRATOR: And the angel departed her.
ACTION: (Gabriel turns back and walks away to left of the altar. Mary pauses a moment until Gabriel
walk pass the ambo and then she stands up and walk down the center aisle of the worship space.)
NARRATOR: And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. And so all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. (Pause)
ACTION: Pause!!! For Caesar and the guards to enter to position themselves and exit.
CAESAR: All the World should be taxed!
NARRATOR: And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the Town of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the City of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
CHOIR/ASSEMBLY: The Song “O Little Town of Bethlehem”
ACTION: (Joseph, carrying a lit lantern; and Mary, carrying the Baby Jesus, walk from the back of worship space down the center aisle.)
NARRATOR: And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that Mary should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manager; because there was no room for them in the inn.
CHOIR/ASSEMBLY: The Song “What Child Is This”
ACTION: (Mary places Jesus into the manger. A bit later Joseph very slowly knells down in adoration.)
NARRATOR: And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
ACTION: (The shepherds walks from the liturgy closets to their position in the fields set. At the same time the Angel of the Lord emerges and stands in front of the shepherds with hands extended.) Children’s Christmas Pageant Script.
NARRATOR: And the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were so afraid.
ACTION: (The shepherds quietly huddle together as in fear!)
NARRATOR: And the angel said unto them:
ANGEL OF THE: Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
ANGEL OF THE: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find the babe wrapped in saddling clothes, lying in a manger.
NARRATOR: And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward all people.
CHOIR/ASSEMBLY: “Angels We Have Heard On High”
ACTION: (As the organist begins to play through the hymn the angels emerge from the center aisle of the worship space. They have their hands folded in pray and adoration of the newborn King of Kings and should begin to sing along with the choir on the chorus: Gloria in excelsis Deo…) Children’s Christmas Pageant Script.
CHOIR/ASSEMBLY: The Song “Go Tell It On The Mountain”

ACTION: (As the entrance to this hymn begins the shepherd begin to leave their places and gather in front of the Holy Family up on the stage. The ones in front on either side may kneel in adoration while the taller ones in back remain standing with their hands folded in prayer and awe. Shepherds sing chorus.)
NARRATOR: And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
NARRATOR: And all they that heard it wondered at those things, which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.

NARRATOR: And the shepherd returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
ACTION: (Narrator extend hands towards the assembly)
NARRATOR: The Gospel the Lord!
ASSEMBLY: Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.
